About HOCL
Learn more about the Everyday Disinfectant Spray and the active ingredient inspired by nature, Hypochlorous Acid.
What is HOCL (Hypochlorous Acid)?
HOCL is the natural ingredient your body produces to disinfect and keep us healthy. YES, that’s right, HOCL exists in your body. It is a weak acid created by our white blood cells as a defense system against infection, bacteria and viruses. HOCL attacks invading pathogens, breaking down their cell walls, destroying unhealthy invaders. The antimicrobial acid is lethally effective in carrying out its protective mission.
When dissolved in water, hypochlorous acid has been found to have strong disinfection properties. Given this and its non-toxicity, it has been identified as a useful cleaning agent and sanitizer.
How does Dear Planet Labs generate this ingredient outside of our body?
Salt, Water, and the science of electro activation. That’s it.
Where else is this ingredient used for?
HOCL is used in wound care, skin disinfection, food safety, water treatment, purification of oil and natural gas wells, deodorization and skin products, and as a food-safe sanitizer on both food products and food preparation surfaces.
How powerful is HOCL in eliminating germs?
HOCL is the most powerful oxidant in the chlorine family — more so than sodium hypochlorite (bleach).
About Everyday Disinfectant Spray

Yes! EDS is genuinely safe. Because the active ingredient HOCL is produced in our bodies, Everyday Disinfectant is safe for contact with skin, eyes, and even accidental ingestion.
What are the 3 natural ingredient in Everyday Disinfectant Spray?
- Salt. You eat this everyday.
- Water. You drink this everyday.
- Hypochlorous Acid. You know this one by now.
Why does it say “Keep Out of Reach of Children”?
- Our product is a continuous spray powered by compressed air. It is a product under pressure.
- Disinfectants are pesticides. If a chemical or solution kills a living organism — even a solution as safe as HOCl — it is classified as a pesticide by the EPA. Children should not by using them.
